Standardized Layout Design Of Examination Paper

Exam is an important ways to test students’ knowledge acquirement. It is an importantbasis of recruitment for many colleges and companies, and is regarded as students’ dailylearning tasks. Examinations are also considered as a fair competition means, but in theexamination process for various reasons, candidates may not perform at the normal level ofthemselves. One big reason is that the bad layout of the exam papers, because of lack ofconsideration of candidates’ reading behavior when they are doing an exam, candidates maynot understand exam direction and answer questions correctly. This situation is more obviousin the developing computer based test. Because the interfaces of computer based test lack theoverall visual sense and writing friendly feeling, there are some obstacles for students whenthey are taking the exams.In order that the candidates could concentrate on the questions of exam, this paperanalyzed the reading behavior of candidates and redesigned the layout of exam paper.Furthermore students reading behavior in paper based exam and in computer based examinterface will be compared and analyzed, and than a better high efficiency computer basedexam interface system will be designed. In the end, the development direction of exam formatin the near future will be discussed.This taken CET4(College English Test Band4) as an example and mainly analyze themethods of designing the candidates friendly layout of traditional exam papers and computerbased exam interfaces.
