The development of Uighur contemporary literary fiction has made great strides in the last60years. The greatest period of advancement was in the1980s, when there was an increased focus on the relationship between individuals and their environment or ecology. During this period, major criticisms of disparities between characters and their surrounding influences brought about increased efforts to harmonize individual behaviours with their ecology. This paper focuses on the development of ecological awareness in Uighur contemporary fiction. It is presented in four parts. The introductory section deals with the definition of human ecology, its ties to literary fiction, and its influence on the development of Uighur contemporary literary fiction. The second part focuses on the influence of the Uighur psyche, traditions, and cultural worldview on Uighur fiction. The third part deals with the development of ecological approaches to Uighur contemporary fiction (as opposed to anthropocentric or naturalistic approaches, or approaches based on culture, myths, or traditions). Writers who exemplify this approach to writing as well as representative works will be presented. The concluding section briefly reiterates the significance and value of ecological consciousness as embodied in existing Uighur contemporary works of fiction, and its further development in future literary works.
