Funeral Customs In The Contemporary Fiction

Because of its tedious ritual,superstitious concepts and the extravagant waste, the traditional funeral custom suffered a great of criticism and change constantly in the modern society. But it is still lasting in many places of our country,because it is one of the most important human etiquette,and full of ethnic characteristics.Funerary rite often was made creative use by some writers in modern society,it plays a unique role in the art for its cultural and literary charm.My paper tries to research the funeral rites in the modern fiction and explain the cultural values and literary function of the funeral custom.In order to achieve this goal,I will use the theory of folklore,literary theory and anthropology. First of all,I will review the development history and research status of the funeral customs.Then reveal the cultural connotation of it.On this basis,I will explore the contemporary writers’ attitude of funeral customs culture by the method of reading the works.At last, I would explore the value of funeral customs in the minority literary.
