An Investigation Of The Supply-demand Situation Of English Translation Professionals In Heilongjiang Province

China’s external trade volume enjoys a continuous increase with the deepeningof reform and opening up, and cross-border cooperation as well as competitions arecommon. This global exchange presents an urgent need for qualified translationprofessionals more than ever. In the past, topics of “translation professionals” haveappeared frequently in newspapers, but very few in-depth academic studies have beenmade. The translation professional market calls for a comprehensive study inconnection with reality, only by doing so can we make a new and accurate conclusion.This thesis presents a case study of Heilongjiang Province’s demand for qualifiedtranslation professionals. The research analysis reflects objectively the translationprofessionals’ existing conditions in government sectors, enterprises, universities andcolleges. The author holds that condition of a status quo that marks an unprofessionaland unqualified translation service that prevails in Heilongjiang Province is far from arealistic direction. Universities should strive to improve their teaching system,re-develop teaching objectives and define talent cultivation programs, thus make thetranslator supply chain running favorable. Finally, the author gives some suggestionsfor translation professionals and MTI education, hoping to help translationprofessionals acquire awareness of the present situation of translation market, andcontributes to its healthy development.
