Compensation Of Cultural Default In Translation From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

The comprehensive strength and international influence of China has increased, more and more people want to learn Chinese culture. The quality of translation and translator plays a very important role in introducing Chinese culture to the whole world. Living in different cultural environments, the understanding of the same voice or text symbol is different, so people in different social and cultural environments need to learn others’ cultural background to help them understand information and achieve communication. In the practice of translation, especially the translation of culture, cultural default phenomena occur frequently, causing troubles and distresses to the translator.This thesis studies the concept and mechanism of cultural default from the perspective of relevance theory. This thesis explains the mechanism of cultural default based on relevance theory, lists guiding principle to solve the problem and summarizes compensation strategies and methods. It provides a reference to the future cultural translation and cultural default compensation.In this thesis the author summarizes the related problems encountered in the translation of cultural default, the application of relevance theory to understand and solve these problems. This thesis has important significance on studying cultural default and compensation strategies.
