Language comes from the development of our society. Along with the age of network and information, came the emergence of network language. Internet buzzword, which is created by netizens, belongs to network language. It comes into being as the internet age comes. It is popular both on the internet and in real life. Reflecting a certain social realities of the new form of language, internet buzzword is a special product of the Internet era. With the rapid development of network technology and the increasing number of netizens, the use of internet buzzwords spreads gradually. Especially in the last few years, internet buzzwords gradually penetrated into all aspects of people’s social life. High school students, with their strong sense of curiosity, the strong ability to accept new things and to create, become one of the main users of internet buzzwords.Academic researches on internet buzzwords mainly focused on linguistic aspects of internet buzzwords, such as their word formation, characteristics and classification. In recent years, some scholars have tried to explain the reasons for the popularity of internet buzzwords from the new perspective of memetics. However, the current researches on the use of internet buzzwords by high school students, a particular speech community, are rare. Thus, combining the qualitative research method and quantitative research method together, the author carried out a research on the use of internet buzzwords by high school students. This study aims to solve three problems:(1) whether is the internet buzzword popular in high school or not? Why?(2) What impacts does the internet buzzword have on high school students?(3) How to guide high school students to use the internet buzzwords properly?Therefore, the author first collected and analyzed internet buzzwords popular in recent two years, and then got the first hand information by means of questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire mainly includes questions that related to frequency of use internet buzzwords by high school students, causes for this phenomenon, as well as their attitudes to internet buzzwords. The interview aims to know the attitude of the parents and teachers to the use of internet buzzwords by high school students. The survey shows that the internet buzzwords are very popular among high school students. On this basis, the author analyzed the causes of the popularity of internet buzzwords from two aspects, characteristics of internet buzzwords and the psychological characteristics of high school students, and its possible influences on high school students. In the end, the thesis gave some suggestions about how to guide students to use the internet buzzwords properly and how to help students form correct sense of values.Internet buzzwords have already become a part of the campus culture, and also a language often used the language by high school students in their daily communication. However, the impact of internet buzzwords should not be overlooked. This thesis aims to arouse the concern of the society, especially the educators in high schools to use the network buzzwords, hoping that more people will pay attention to the study the use of internet buzzwords by high school students and guide high school students to use of the internet buzzwords properly.
