An Analysis Of Language Presupposition Strategies Of Mo Yan’s Novel

A primary goal of adopting presupposition is to ensure logic form of sentences and make these sentences meaningful. By using referential presuppositions, writers are able to represent their notations and distinguish their writing style from those non-referential ones.This thesis targets at analyzing language presupposition strategies adopted by Mo Yan while writing his novel of "Red Sorghum Clan". In view of different characters held within the application of language presupposition, the novel will be illustrated from three aspects of presupposition, which are allegorical presupposition, diversification presupposition and poetic sadness presupposition. These three types of presupposition strategies will be analyzed by adopting excerpts of Mo Yan’s novel and represented in the fourth chapter of this thesis. Upon analysis, it is found out that writers are able to adequately adopt presupposition as a primary writing skill and make their statement hood more comprehensible. Besides, the analysis reveals that success of Mo Yan’s novel of "Red Sorghum Clan" lies in that fact that Mo is able to demonstrate some implicit meaning and reflect societal background from communication dialogues initiated between main characters in this novel. Presupposition helps to construct a coherent and smooth discourse with rich content which is also an effective strategies used in literary writing. The fourth part provides a brief analysis of the application of allegorical presupposition, diversification presupposition, as well as poetic sadness presupposition within Mo Yan’s novel of "Red Sorghum Clan".Following conclusions can be made upon analyzing and concluding dissertation results:1、Allegorical presupposition utilization in the novel of "Red Sorghum Clan" helps the writer to depict characters more vividly, as well as making the demonstrating of analogized meaning more implicitly and to the point.2、Diversified presupposition strategies enable readers to comprehend Mo Yan’s novel from diversified perspectives, while still complying with its core writing clues.3、Poetic sadness presupposition strategies make the death of main characters in the story more poignant and moving.
