The ’Simplification’ Treatment

Since the emergence of photography, the relationship between photography and painting hasbeen a highly debated topic. The application of photographs introduces many new thoughtsinto painting. Nowadays photographs are important references to paintings. Instead of arguingwhether it is appropriate to use photographs, I performed a research on how to make betterapplication of photos as source material for painting. Through simplifying certain elementswhile maintaining the essentials of the photographs, it is achievable to enhance the expressionof the graph via painting. This study thoroughly analyzes the advantages of using such’simplification’ treatment of photographs for painting, as well as presents the effects of thetreatment during the creation of paintings.
