About My Series Of Creation:N41°49’,W71°25’—Providence

Urban landscapes are more associated with humanistic values than rural landscape. Streets in a city convey its story, and witnessed its vicissitudes. The city streets are the most familiar daily life subject to me. After I arrived at America, I deeply feel the differences of the culture between China and America, which are reflected by different style of architecture and streets. This strong comparison urges me to choose the landscape in America as a source material of my graduate creation. “N41°49’, W71°25’” is the longitude and latitude of Providence, the place where I live. This paper describes the source material, creating method and conclusion for my graduation project N41°49’, W71°25’——Providence. City landscape has become a most readily available material for artists due to rapid modernization, and limitation on source materials for art works has been minimized with convenient transportation. The authors are the links between raw materials and productions and the creation is the process of conversation between heart and nature. The proper handling of the relationship between various factors within the frame is central to delivering the ideological contents, expressing the creator’s emotion and fostering an artistic appeal. The structures of those paintings are clear, and the composition harmonic. The details of distant scenes are depicted daringly. A weakened contrast in terms of the color, brightness and purity in the details is used to create a sense of more opened space, which brings more changes and fun. In the creating process, I constantly recall my life there. The four paintings feature morning, noon, afternoon and evening, respectively; the landscapes combined reproduce my daily route when I lived in Providence, and remind me of the daily life. This work aims at the combination of figures and landscapes, and the integration of emotion and scenery. With subjective initiative, emotion and vision are combined. Their conflict generates a new perception of street view, and a breakthrough is sought for in this way. 《N41°49’, W71°25’——Providence》 is one of the achievements during my graduate student stage. I wish to express my feeling of recalling and cherishing this times when I was in Providence, with the help of careful description.
