Howard Gardner, who is the famous psychologist in America, proposedthe multiple intelligences theory in1983. Many educators have paid attention to thetheory since it was proposed. Some schools used the multiple intelligences to guideteaching. If teachers find some students’talent, they can design teaching according tothe talent. The domestic and foreign teachers and experts have conducted manystudies on the multiple intelligences theory. It has been proved that multipleintelligences theory has profound significance on education reform. So this thesis isbased on the multiple intelligences theory and studies89English Majors from grade3of H university with the multiple intelligences survey (Walter McKenzie1999).This paper is to analyze students’ intelligence characteristics, and the relationshipbetween individual intelligence and listening achievement, adopting the students’average scores of final listening test in four semesters, using the SPSS19.0software,descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis andother statistical methods.According to the statistics analysis, the thesis has the following conclusions:first, the individuals’ differences in intelligence type is significant among the89English majors; second, on the whole, music intelligence and intrapersonalintelligence are more predominant, math-logical intelligence is relatively weakamong the89English majors; third, music intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence,linguistic intelligence and math-logical intelligence influence students’ Englishlistening achievement; forth, music intelligence has a low positive correlation with listening achievement, linguistic intelligence has a weak positive correlation withEnglish listening achievement. Music intelligence has certain predictability onEnglish listening achievements. When the music intelligence is high, the students’English listening achievement will also be high to a certain extent.According to the results of the survey, this paper gets the listening teachingstrategies: Since the music intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, linguisticintelligence and math-logical intelligence influence students’ English listeningachievement, teachers should develop students’ intelligences in these areas, and usethem to serve their English listening learning. At the same time, teachers should usestudents’ predominant intelligence (music intelligence) to develop students’ weakintelligence (math-logical intelligence) and held extracurricular activities to developstudents’intelligences related to English listening learning.
