Jeanette Winterson is one of the most talented writer of modernBritain.Her independent personality, dare to rebel the secularauthority.Known her works by clever use of the postmodern narrativetechniques and exquisite language, who won the Brad prize, BloomBerle Whitby award, USA Knopf and other important awards.In2005,she was invited to join the project myth rewriting BritishCanongate Books press launched,and give the story of Atlas withheaven--weight, The Atlas love and hate and delicate psychologicaldepiction interpenetration.Will a man on the moon,"Mir" the spacestation took the epoch-making significance of modern scientific eventskillfully into the ancient myth.An ancient myths are filled with amysterious color at the same time stamped with the brand of thetimes today,and then puts forward:"what is freedom? How should onecontrol?" So this paper choose the perspective of existentialism,have free choice, trying to find the answer. This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the mainlyintroduces the origin of the rewriting myth project and the researchstatus between Jeanette Winterson and weight. The second partfocuses on the situation of the characters in weight.From thestructure of Sartre five situation of my past, I now, around me, myneighbors and my death are discussed. The third part focuses on theproblem of absurd in weight. Including the absurdity of the world, thesituation and characters, the absurdity of life. The fourth part focuseson the "freedom of choice"of the characters in weight.Discussion onthe characters in a desperate situation in the selection and go beyondthe self selection.The fifth part focuses on the contemporary--selfchoice and responsibility of absolute meaning behind the myth of therestatement.The weight, finally concluded that people create themselves.Asthe author herself has been sticking to the don’t care about the worldthrough the eyes of always do the real you.This also and the view ofexistentialism,people don’t succumb to fate.Whether meet what kindof world, all want to brave to face and have the courage to bear.
