The Confucius Temple Sacrificial Offering Ceremony is a kind of performing art which contains music and dance. It has a very long history that can be dated back to the Spring and Autumn Period. Consequently, the Confucius Temple Sacrificial Offering Ceremony has a specific meaning through China’s history. It is a symbol of Confucian culture. The ceremony itself has a kind of unique indoctrination and aesthetics. We can have a better understanding of Confucian culture so as to give service to modern life by studying the indoctrination and aesthetics of the ceremony.The Confucius Temple in Jing dong was built at the beginning of Ming Dynasty. The sacrificial offering ceremony also commences in Ming Dynasty. It carries on through the history and is aborted during China’s Cultural Revolution. The ceremony is not restored until2012. This thesis analyses the social significance of the restoration and studies the indoctrination and aesthetics of the ceremony. This paper compares the ancient ceremony and modern ceremony so as to understand the different aesthetics and cultural indoctrination in different social contexts.Located in the southwest of Yunnan province, Jing dong has a very high concentration of ethnic minorities. The sacrificial offering ceremony is deeply influenced by local culture and arts. Compared with the ceremony in China’s Central Plains, the ceremony features in Jing dong embraces local ethnic traits. The ceremony in Jing dong is more novel by mixing local ethnic features based on ceremony of Central Plains. This novelty contributes to the specific aesthetics and indoctrination in Jingdong’s Confucius Temple sacrificial offering ceremony. The restoration of the ceremony culturally indoctrinates local ethnic minorities and accelerates the spread of Confucian culture. Although the ceremony forms are different, the function of the edutainment between Central Plains and Jing dong is the same. By studying the indoctrination and aesthetics, the author notes that the Confucius Temple sacrificial offering ceremony is a kind of cultural performance maintaining indoctrination and entertainment. Moreover, people are culturally indoctrinated by Confucian culture experiencing the aesthetics.This thesis includes four parts. The first part introduces the history of Jing-dong’s Confucius Temple and studies the restoration of the sacrificial offering ceremony in Jing dong. The second part introduces procedures of the sacrificial offering ceremony in Jing dong. In the third part, the author studies the aesthetics and indoctrination of the ceremony in Jing dong. This part is critical and new. It is studied in three aspects. The fourth part carries on a further study of the social influence and the ceremony in Jing dong. In order to have a better understanding of the relation of indoctrination and aesthetics, the author proposes some novel opinions.
