After Arthur C.Danto, Where Will We Go?

In mid and late20th century, along with economic development,instrumental rationality in the community predominates. Butmankind is faced with great spiritual crisis of faith through the twoworld wars and economic crisis. In the cases of era, some artistsand theorists began to subvert the traditional rule, destruction ofthe old order and deconstruct the classic discourse. They wererelevant theoretical research and artistic creation. Existing arttheory can’t be able to explain the development of the arts, such asMarcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol.In order to resolve the difficulties faced by the current art,Danto proposed the theory of "The Art World" and "The End of Art"based on the observation of the situation of the development ofcontemporary art and creative activities of the artist. He usedanalytic philosophy and use “Style Matrix” as a tool to demonstratethe history of art. He believes that judging something as arts needsan atmosphere of theory and a world of art. Danto analyzed thedeprival in twice of art by history of philosophy of art. He thoughtthat art will eventually become philosophy. Art will be coming to anend. But he said that the end is not the “dead", the artists will continue to artistic creation, art will continue to exist, but there isno historical meaning. Danto divided the history of art of threephases: imitate era, ideological era, post-historical era. Theemergence of new forms brought an end to the old form. With thedevelopment of the arts, art has entered a new era, a post-historicalperiod. During this period, art had many different types and classes,coexisted with the chaos and disorder.Danto’s theory answered "what is art","The essence of art" and“The future of art” and other fundamental problems. His theory canhelp us to understand the present situation of the promotion of artand theory innovation. In order to find a way out for the developmentof our contemporary art, this article analyzed the present artdevelopment, explained Danto’s art theory and its value, focusingon the "the art world "and "the end of art".
