British ideas historians, Isaiah Berlin (Isaiah Berlin,1909--1997) put forward his ownunique valuable theory----valuable pluralism from the position of ideal history. Berlinclarified the basic status of valuable pluralism and its importance in theory and realityfrom different angles, he,from three aspects such as being via romanticism against tothe rationalism monism which was represented by Enlightenment;Free improvednationalism’s reflection on nationalism of avenged type;Utopian ideas’ declining inthe west, articulated the limitation of valuable monism on theory and reality and theimportance of valuable pluralism, at the same time, he had a further discussion aboutvalue problems. Firstly, the first part of this article which interpreted Berlin’sbackground of valuable pluralism revealed Berlin’s critique and reflection on valuablemonism which dominated by west, and eventually established the standpoint of hisvaluable pluralism. Secondly, this article by describing romanticism, nationalism, andutopian idea cleared up the real connotation and theoretical content of Berlin valuablepluralism from the aspects such as historical, cultural view, political view, andnational view. Finally, the third part of this article has carried on meaningful historicalevaluation on Berlin’s valuable pluralism. Although there exists much limitations onBerlin’s valuable pluralism, in spite of his flaws, Berlin’s libertarian theory which wasthe foundation of valuable pluralism affects the whole of20th century.
