Slang, as a kind of informal communication language, is usually considerednon-standard language which is often neglected by people. In many cases, it will not appear inthe English teaching classes. However, slang is an important part in the English language andculture which can not be neglected. And it get more and more attention from the linguists.Because of its unique language style and the actual pragmatic functions, slang is widely usedin all kinds of social fields. Slang is vivid and concise in expressing meaning. English slangreflects the rich cultural information and the unique cultural characteristics of the Englishlanguage in such aspects as geography, history, religion and custom etc. Teaching Englishslang in English classes can help students understand the cultural connotation and differencein English vocabulary and improve the ability of cross-cultural communication, so as tocomprehensively improve the oral English communicative competence.This paper takes two classes1301and1302of the flight attendant department in ShanxiNormal university as the research subjects. It researches the influence of teaching Englishslang on students’ English study in the guidance of the affective filter hypothesis of secondlanguage acquisition and constructivism theory. On the basis of questionnaire, English testand interviews, it determines the research direction of English slang teaching in formalEnglish classes and its influence on students’ English study. In order to test the feasibility andeffectiveness of the English slang teaching, the author has carried on an experimental researchfor a whole semester, and makes a statistical analysis of research results. The results of theresearch and questionnaire survey show that English slang teaching can inspire students’interest in English learning, enhance the students’ learning motivation, improve the ability ofintercultural communication and improve the students’ academic performance. At the sametime it can form a good relationship between teachers and students and improve the Englishclassroom teaching.
