This paper regards Excursions,Op.20, No.1,Samuel Barber as the object of study. On the basis of previous studies, this article attempts to discuss this piece of works from ontology and philosophical level which involves a classical pointcut and a contemporary one. What’s more, this article also explains how Barber combined tradition and modernity ideally by arranging domestic and overseas documents in hand. This essay divides into two parts:the first one is the creation background of the Excursions, including the brief introduction of the composer and the creation background of this work. The second part is mainly about the analysis of different classical and modern elements embodied in this work, such as musical form, concord, material and so on. And,it argues about some thoughts of the writer.
