In the Tang Dynasty,the close and complicated relationship between Buddhism and poetry reflected not only in the influence of the religious on poetry writing,but also reflected in the contribution to the spread of poetry. From the angle of Buddhist temple culture, this paper will be divided into four chapters to expound the three aspects:the poetry propagation environment,the consciousness of poetry communicators,media and activities of the poetry transmission so as to show what role the Buddhist temple culture play in the contemporary poetry transmission.The first chapter is composed of three sections. The first section mainly introduce the general information of Buddhist temples: the quantity, distribution and their economic conditions. The second part is trying to redefine the Buddhist Culture, which will be expanded with Buddhist temples’ functional culture of great profundity, but not only limited in the scope of the art of Buddhist temple collections or architecture. In the third part,the author will try to explore the environment and conditions of transmission from two aspects: the connection of Buddhist temples culture and poetry and the advantages of poetry transmission.The second chapter is mainly about the analysis the consciousness and motivation of the main disseminators of poetry under the Buddhist culture’s influence. Firstly, the author will summarize all forms of transmission behavior. According to the behaviors, it could be concluded that the main disseminators are monks and the poets deeply influenced by Buddhist temple culture. The motivations of these disseminators vary as their classes and status. This chapter, from the aspects of “political benefits”, “economical benefits” and “mental benefits”,tends to research the motivation of monks when transmitting poetries. In the end, this chapter will discuss the impact of Temple’s Collection of books and the mentoring relationship among monks on the poets.The third chapter is about “The relationship between the Buddhist temple culture and the media of poetry communication”. This chapter will elaborate from the two aspects: the wall media and the paper media. The section of “the wall media” will concentrate on the cause ofbehavior that the ancient scholars write poets on the wall, the content of these poets and the effects of these poets in transmitting. The chapter of “paper media” contains two parts: the activities of transcribers in temples; the development of woodblock printing under the increasing demand of Buddhist texts.The fourth chapter is a probe in-depth of the poetic communication activities under the Buddhist temple culture influence. In this chapter, the author employs the western communication theory to classify the poetry communication behaviors between the monk and the literati into three modes of “Inner communication”, ”Interpersonal communication”,“Group communication”.
