In the information age, the network courses are a rich treasure of knowledge for students, especially micro class, online open courses and MOOC, all play an important part in promoting the quality of English majors. Because of professional features of English majors, they should pay more attention to using three types of network courses effectively. However, the current situation of application is not good and has many problems, therefore, how to make use of network courses fully has become an important part in improving the quality of English major. Based on this, the paper discussed the current situation of application in three types of network courses for English majors, and put forward some effective strategies.The paper studied the current situation of application in three types of network courses, such as micro class, online open courses and MOOC among English majors in employing questionnaire method and interviewing method. Besides, the paper chose five universities in Xi’an according to school levels and types, such as Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University, Xi’an International Studies University and Xi’an Translation College, and used four dimensions to analysis, such as known dimension, using dimension, needs dimension and evaluation dimension.The results showed that the current situation of known dimension and using dimension among the English majors was low. Besides, compared with five universities, students’ current situation of known dimension and using dimension in normal school and polytechnic school was good, while students in private university was poor. On background information, family location and students’ ability of learning English affect the application of network courses. Based on this, the study put forward several effective strategies through multichannel methods, multilevel methods, multidisciplinary methods, and multiple-type methods. These strategies will undoubtedly improve the quality of English major and English talents, and show the value of network courses, which are also in line with the inherent requirements of English major under the information age.
