Based on the flying bird in poetry of the Tang dynasty, analyzes the image embodied in aesthetic characteristics and cultural meanings. Flying bird is a certain image in the Chinese ancient poetry which can not be neglected. Flying is bird’s external nature, freedom is flying birds beyond symbolism that is used to express the change and the far-reaching sense of time and space, reveal the spirit of freedom and regression to the heart. Zen developed prosperously in Tang dynasty, which impacts the attitude toward beauty during the poetry composition. The metaphor of bird in Buddhism brings out flying bird’s particular features, showing us a quite and profound mental realm.The bird’s flying brings the change of position, and then embodies the passage of time.Chapter one based on it, discussing the relationship between flying bird and the space-time consciousness. Chapter two dealing with the connection on flying bird and individual life consciousness triggers by space-time consciousness. The bird totem and divination express divinity of flying bird, while Buddhism externalizes humanity of it. Chapter three has a bearing on the metaphor of bird in Buddhism, which affects the natural quality of flying bird, and transforms poetic priority into involuntary quietus.The image of flying bird in Tang dynasty reflects the importance of the quality of life,displays the cultural thought of life sense and value and the pursuit of freedom peace. It makes sense of the expression and aesthetic value in the poetry.
