Under the influence of the eastward transmission of western sciences,novelists describes a large amount of conflict between Chinese and western culture in Cantonese Fictions of Late Qing Dynasty. Under these kind of description,novelists repeals the enormous impact of the western civilization to native Cantonese.In order to find out the origination of Chinese modernity,this thesis bases on Cantonese Fictions of Late Qing Dynasty, takes the‘entrance-conflict-emerge’ of the meeting of Chinese and western as a key to reach this point.Firstly,this thesis reveals the entrance of Western technology products,Western value and lifestyle,Western system,to show the culture shock that this kind of entrance have bring to the native Cantonese.Secondly,this thesis discusses the conflict between tradition and modern that have been represented in Cantonese Fictions of Late Qing Dynasty.Therefore,this thesis presents the origination of the conflict between tradition and modern,then finds out the kind of action that native Cantonese have taken when facing the conflict between tradition and modern.Therefrom,the emotional that novelists hides in their work can be excavated.lastly,in the way of analysing modernity of literature,we can find out under the conflict between Chinese and western,the way that the writer uses have boost the process of modernity.meanwhile,we can show that the choice of the form of writing content and writing form of this novel,have show there values to the enlightenment of Chinese social.This thesis uses the comparative analysis method to compare the relation between ‘film narrative-literature narrative’,‘Cantonese Fictions of Late Qing Dynasty narrative-western novel narrative’.Meanwhile,we will use the western literary theory criticism methods such as the new historicism to compare the technique that the author uses with the new technique that the western modern literature uses.In this way,we can find out the modern value that Cantonese Fictions of Late Qing Dynasty have.On this account, we can further evidence that under the intersection of Chinese and Western civilization conflict, Cantonese Fictions of Late Qing Dynasty have an enlightenment value to Chinese literature.
