It contains two aspects opposite to each other. One is capitalist modernity, the central value of which are improvement and reason. The other is aesthetic modernity, the core of which is aesthetic perception. But one of the important features of modernity is to look foe a common focus in changeable consciousness of time. So the paper holds that modernity is not only a measure of time, but also a measure of value, which is it's deep connotation. When we judge the progress of literature by modernity, we do can If think that only the literature in modern times prossesses modernity. This is the theoretical basis on which the paper could comprehend the poetics of late Qing Dynasty by discourse of modernity. Poetics of late Qing Dynasty emerged in the ae undergoing a tremendous transform. The main feature in the fields of society, culture and thought on this time is that Eastern learning and Western learning, the ancient ideas and the modern ideas were colliding and interchanging. In the same time, a times brand of blending was stamped inevitably on the ideal to improve poetry. This ideal wad reflected in the poetics of late Qing Dynasty. The paper holds that Huang zun-xian's poetic ideas of writing poems beyond Chinese world expressed awakening of sense of world. Gong zi-zhen's peotic ideas of perfection and writing its honesty are to promote free individuality and personality. Liang qi-chao 's idea of awaking the people by poetry is to call the liberation of individuality and healthy progress of personality which has the connotation of sense of personality. The awaking of sense of world and sense of humanity belong to the sense of modern. They are the direct expression of modernity in late Qing Dynasty. That Huang zun-xian stood for that by my hands write my ideas in poem express some abandoning the expressive system of classical Chinese.In late Qing Dynasty there was an idea about aesethetic non-utility such as Wang guo-wei's seeking for aesthetic non-utility and lu-xun's putting forward the poetic idea of breaking of gentleness, which in fact hinted to breaking of the Confucianists' aesthetic idea.The paper think that is an expression of modernity.
