By examining the comments on front page of Lat Pau(1887-1895),we spied out the evolution process from patriotism to nationalism of the Singapore Chinese(Lau Chinese). The coverage of European affairs from 1887 to 1890 went through migration of viewing others from the point of self. From then on, “nation” begin to manifest its rudiment. Discussion of economic and social affairs in Singapore caused the “conflict between system identity and culture identity”. The dual structure of patriotism laid the initial moderate tone for patriotism. After 1890, coverage about the affairs of C hinese in America made moderate "patriotism" began to favor the extreme, and the calling for national power and recognition was further strengthened; while coverage about the Northeast Asian affairs played three roles in modeling ethnic Chinese’s nationalism of the Singapore C hinese. The aggressive posture of northern territory from Russia made the attitudes towards C hinese foreign affairs of the Singapore Chinese intellectuals maintain in an intense cognitive environment in which the demands of national security have always been strong. C hinese patriotism may slide completely to the irrational side at any time because of the complexion in North Korea; the deeply embedded Japanese factors provides a special view point----- the weak "otherness". Chinese patriotism manifested itself in a completely irrational way of passionate nationalism featured as "O nly war doctrine ". While after the defeat, because of the two paths of "rigid identity of nation power " and "international harmony thinking", the extreme nationalism cooled down rapidly, and it ended up in the realism path of "nation power- the power logic". Then through the irrational process, nationalism completed its ration reconstruction in the end.
