In recent decades, many scholars at home and abroad has carried out the study of pragmatic markers from perspectives of semantics, cognitive linguistics, language acquisition, making the development of the study for pragmatic markers by leaps and bounds. With the deepening of the research, no matter in which field, syntax, semantics, pragmatics or cognitive linguistics, the researchers tend to take pragmatic markers as a linguistic phenomenon with a certain pragmatic functions. For different researchers, pragmatic markers have different meanings, but in general, pragmatic markers have the function of making communication successful, discourse and the passage coherent, achieving utterance shift and optimal relevance, and leading two communicative sides towards correct understanding of each other’s words. In some sense, pragmatic markers are one of the useful tools which promote successful communication.Under the framework of Coherence Theory, his paper has studied the use of pragmatic markers in English speeches by non-English majors in Xin Jiang by using antconc3.2.1, then this paper has observed and analyzed the use of pragmatic markers by non-English majors with quantitative and qualitative methodology, and got the conclusions as follows: 1)In general, pragmatic markers are widely used by non-English major students in English speeches; 2) factors leading to high frequency of individual pragmatic markers in prepared speeches are: non-English majors are lack of ability to deal with the structure of the sentence, and non-English majors are influenced by a run-on sentence in Chinese; The number of the pragmatic markers mastered by non-English majors is less and familiar pragmatic markers mastered by them are even less. 3) In the prepared speeches, the main functions of pragmatic markers are: to put forward the new topic; to make a contrast; to make further explanation; to strengthen the momentum sentence; to get more time to consider; to attract the attention of the audience and to come to the conclusion.Finally, according to the results of this study, this paper discusses how to study pragmatic markers in English speeches writing and give enlightenment to college English teaching.In this paper, the analysis on the use of pragmatic markers has a certain guiding significance for non-English majors in using pragmatic markers to write and communicate reasonably and effectively.
