This is a report on the reconstruction of foregrounding features in Less Than Zero. This novel is a stream-of-consciousness novelette, which follows the life of a young college student during his stay at his hometown, Los Angeles, profoundly revealing the empty spiritual life of the Lost Generation in the affluent economy. Foregrounding contributes a lot to the charm of this novel and that is also the main reason that the translator makes it the source text.Foregrounding is an important stylistic technique, which can outstand something literary and artistic in the work. This deviated and irregular expression can attract more attention of readers, giving them freshness and beauty in actualization and defamiliarization. As a prominent feature in Less Than Zero, foregrounding confers its content and form profound stylistic significance and aesthetic value, which the translator should reproduce in translating so as to make readers appreciate the original text as much as possible. The report is composed of four parts, including task description, process description, case study and conclusion. The case study is the most significant part in this report, in which the translator will focus on how to reconstruct foregrounding at graphological, lexical and syntactic level.
