Underground Space Mural Art Materials Research

The rapid development of the city not only squeeze the space of ground traffic, but also promote the development of underground space. Subways as the main form of transportation in city underground space that connect various functional areas around the city, and effectively alleviate the ground traffic pressure.The emergence of the subway has led to the rise of subway mural, and taking it as a way to improve the subway space environment that has been widely used all over the world. The subway mural can not only improve the underground space environment but also promote the regional culture of city.In the closed space where lack of landscape, the mural can inject vitality to the space, bring relief to people in a hurry, and increase the cultural charm of the city at the same time, therefore the subway murals as a cultural window of city has become the weather vanes of the city’s construction and development.Every big city is creating its own subway mural arts from the 80’s Beijing, 90’s Shanghai metro subway and the Nanjing subway of twentieth Century, attempting to decorate the environment and promoting the regional culture through the role of cultural integration.This topic mainly start from the material of the mural with a comparative analysis to the research on materials to summarize the corresponding rules. First of all,through the analysis and research on characteristics, functions and the architecture relationships of the underground space and put forward the problems. Secondly, the research is focused on Xi’an metro line one and line two, analysis and master the use of mural and general principles, such as the use of material, size, mural themes,etc. With the three representative urban subway mural material regional comparison in Beijing,Shanghai and Hangzhou, I sum up the similarities and differences of material use.Moreover, by analyzing the relationship between the material and the metro space, I summ up the use of the principles and the characteristics of subway mural material in the space, and set out for the use of underground space mural painting materials and techniques.Finally, combining the cases Dachashi stations’ material design of xi ’an subway line 4 in order to provide a feasible model for the development of Xi’an subway mural arts, and verify the validity and the regularity of the mural material.Through this study of Xi ’an subway mural material, I try to provide an effective guidance and reference for the urban construction of the subway murals.
