When the wheel of history has entered the21st century, the modern Chinesesociety has come to a critical period of comprehensive restructuring. With thedeepening of economic and political transition, the field of culture is also a necessaryrequirement to make the appropriate adjustments and changes, so as to provide supportto adapt to the culture of society as a whole for a smooth transition. At present, China’scultural transformation is on a very critical stage, the cultural transformation has aninestimable guiding role in the successful restructuring of China as a whole. Therefore,to strengthen research on problems of cultural transformation has great practical value.Both Japan and China are East Asian countries, and in recent times, they both havesuffered the massive invasion from Western powers, so they have to face a crisis ofsurvival. However, Japan regards the aggression as a rare historical opportunity insteadof being dispirited. In that way, Japan catches up with others eventually, and hasbecame the first Asian country in the world to get rid of the colonial rule so as toachieve the realization of modernization transformation successfully. This paperdiscusses the cultural transformation in China’s modernization and the Japanesemodernization and cultural transformation. The aim is to dig successes and failures inthe cultural transformation of Japanese modernization. Therefore, we can learn fromtheir experiences and avoid the risk of modern development. Based on all this, we cansum up the inspiration provided by the Japanese side, and then look forward to thecultural transformation of Chinese modernization.This paper focuses on the cultural transformation of Chinese modernization, andat the same time takes into account of the cultural transformation of Japanesemodernization. Fundamentally speaking, the essence of Chinese social transformationis the transformation of culture, the process of the cultural transformation of Chinese modernization faces contradictions and conflicts between the tradition and themodernization. It is not feasible to completely abandon or stick to the tradition,because the essential of modernization is the modernization of tradition. That is to say,we should inherit and carry forward the essence of traditional culture, absorb foreignadvanced cultural elements, and thus create the new and modern culture consistentwith the social development. Firstly, the paper will give the definition of modernizationand cultural transformation, and then review the process of the cultural transformationof Chinese modernization, with a detailed analysis of the inherent power and thechallenges of cultural transformation in the course of Chinese modernization. Then thedeep analysis of successful experiences and failures in the cultural transformation ofJapanese modernization will be followed that can afford some benefits and usefulinsights for Chinese cultural modernization as well as the construction of theoriesabout the Chinese cultural transformation.
