University English Curriculum Requirements(for Trial Implementation)(January, 2004) point out clearly College English is a teaching system, it took foreign language teaching theory as a guide. The main contents of teaching system are application methods, cross-cultural communication, language knowledge, and learning strategies, and with a variety of teaching models and teaching tools. "However, if the learners discover and master the learning strategies by themselves, it is time-consuming and may make a detour. Therefore, the study of language learning strategies and how to make students master the learning strategies in a short period of time, have become an important research topic in college English teaching.Although some universities have started training foreign language learning strategies, the form of training is mainly seminars or short-term intensive training. The long-term strategy training combines with foreign language teaching is still relatively rare. So it is significant to investigate college students’ language learning strategies. And based on the investigation, the author train students’ language learning strategies. So as to enhance the awareness of using language learning strategies and to improve the learning performance through language learning strategy. The thesis manages to answer the following three questions:(1) Before learning strategy training, what about the strategy use frequency of the experimental group and the control group?(2) Through the implementation of the "Strategies-based Instruction", how about the students’ awareness of the using learning strategies?(3) Through the implementation of the "Strategies-based Instruction", how about the students’ English performance? The research subjects are 62 students from two natural classes in one of the local college, and the research is conducted by using the questionnaire, experiment, test and interview. The author adopts Oxford questionnaire---Strategy Inventary of Language Learning, and conducted the survey from the six dimensions which include cognitive strategies, social strategies, memory strategies, meta-cognitive strategies, affective strategies and compensation strategies, and found that students lack the knowledge of learning strategy. Therefore, the author adopted the Strategy-Based Instructions, and 62 students from two natural classes in one of the local college has been trained for one semester(The two classes do not have significant differences through the pre-test analysis), and the control class is conducted with the traditional Grammar-Translation Method, while the experimental class is conducted with the SBI model. This strategy training focuses on language skills. In listening teaching, the author combines it with meta-cognitive Strategies; the author combines social and affective strategies with speaking teaching; and the vocabulary teaching is combined with memory strategies; in reading teaching, the author combines it with cognitive strategies. Both the learning strategies training and the second time questionnaire show the SBI model can improve students’ awareness of using language learning strategies compared with the traditional model. And can also help students to improve their learning performance. Above all, it is significant to train students’ language learning strategies.
