Learning Strategy Training

Since the 1970s, theories of psycholinguistics and L2 acquisition have been focused on by many researchers abroad and at home, and language learning strategy, one of the results of the research, plays an important role in language learning. But, during the recent decade a kind of test-centered classroom teaching in China brings out many problems in current English teaching, the way of teacher-dominated teaching leaves students in a passive position of learning English. So how to change this teaching method and make students learn independently become something teachers and students should do. The purpose of this thesis is to confirm effectiveness of English learning strategies training for junior students in daily English classroom teaching.Based on the previous researches on language learning strategy, this paper reports an experiment in English learning strategy training with 94 junior students in Grade Seven of Hui Wen Middle School. Through quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis of the findings, it is obvious that English learning strategy training can not only improve English learners' use of classroom time, complete homework assignments and in-class language tasks more efficiently, but also enhance their awareness of how they can learn more effectively, and empower students to be in control of their own English learning process ultimately. Besides, English learning strategy training can facilitate the forming of a harmonious learning atmosphere in the classroom teaching and control the polarization of English learning effectively. Thus learning strategies training in junior English classroom teaching is a good way to help students learn actively and effectively.
