This is a translation report from the first to the third chapter of The Broken Bridge. The three chapters tell us a story about a young girl called Ginny. She is suspicious of her identity. In order to find the truth, she goes by herself to visit her best friend’s sister Helen. The summer vocation is coming and Ginny begins her part-time jobs in two local restaurants. This report consists of five chapters:The first part introduces the source and the significance of the translation, as well as the structure of the report. The second part is the description of the source text background, including the introduction of the author and the source text, as well as the characteristics of the language. The third part introduces the theoretical foundation, including a general introduction to Skopos Theory and the three rules of Skopos Theory. The fourth part elaborates the process of translation, including how to apply amplification, conversion, inversion and division to English-Chinese translation under the guidance of Skopos Theory. The last part concludes with the experience and lesson learnt from the translation practice, as well as the guide for the translator’s future translation.
