Liangzhe was one of important tax collection areas in Yuan Dynasty, salt tax was also one of the important sources. Department of Liangzhe Salt Transportation (referred Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division) was not only the salt transport distribution and sales organization, and but also organization of bearing salt tax in Jiangzhe Province.First, Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division was on original institution in the Southern Song Dynasty. Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division was established in Zhiyuan fourteenth years (1277). And it was reformed lots in different periods. Because of lots saltern, salterns were combinated and disintegrated, then salterns was managed by agency of Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division.During Chengzong to Renzong periods, Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division was perfected.In Renzong periods, methods of government about Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division were damaged, Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division was reformed again. Salt merchants buy salt through salterns was changed by buying salt from salt warehouses.Later,the methods was changed again in Shun Emperor periods.Second, Yuan Dynasty attached importance to appointment and removal of officials in Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division.Local administrative officials as deputy were the main source of Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division, and center officials were appointed due to demage of the salt law and changement of long-standing political situations. At the same time, as managements about salt transportation were required be professional, so the Han who from North region served as deputy were a lot.On the other hand, local officials and the minor officials from the clerk acted as chief officer (Shoulingguan).At last, Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division played an important role in society and people’s livelihood of Jiangzhe Province. Its important functions were to manage salt producers, improve salt producers life and so on. What’s more, Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division burdened by salt tax, the amount of salt tax was more and more year by year, and the salt price was the same. So Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division struggled, and desired to reduce burden when declared to the Central Secretariat (Zhongshusheng).In short, Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division played an important role in salt tax in Yuan Dynasty.It was inherited by Ming and Qing Dynasty, the functions of Liangzhe Salt Transportation Division were improved better and better.
