The Endangered Situation Of Ge Lao Languages

Since 1970 s, the phenomenon of endangered languages has been proposed. It has aroused great concern at domestic and abroad especially in the high attention of linguistics, thereby being an important subject in the field of linguistics research.The issue of language endangerment has attracted serious concern of all social sector since the twentieth century.The choosed subject in a location of Gelao language—San’Chong Village,De’e Township Longlin County in Guangxi province. By fieldwork investigation, in the form of questionnaires and household interviews, we launched an investigation into the current situation of usage of Gelao language. Through the survey data, combined with linguistics knowledge and theoretical knowledge of sociology, we adopt statistical analysis method to do an ecological described of Gelao languages in San’Chong Village De’e Township Longlin County. In the meantime, we use the endangered linguistics research methods and theoretical system to study it.We are in these ways to do elaboration, such as use type, the use of population and age structure, the use ability, the use of the scope, the intergenerational transmission characteristics and the language attitude,etc., After the research, we found that the Gelao language in San’Chong Village De’e Township Longlin County is conforms to the index system which determining endangered languages, also it is already in an endangered situation. Hence, it is very necesssary for us to make a deep investigation and study about this issue.
