Since the new period, growing films and TV series about Xiangxi. The films and TV series play as a modern paradigm of cultural soft power to the spread of the new image of Xiangxi plays a vital role. As a cultural island of Xiangxi gradually become cultural geography, constantly being modern shown. After 30 years of exploration and development, the films and TV series of Xiangxi have been formed their own characteristics in the field of content style and aesthetic significance and many other aspects. But the rigidity of the films and TV series images of Xiangxi is a remarkable cultural phenomenon. How is it described by films and TV series on the media and what is the difference with real Xiangxi world, the media mainly use what kind of narrative content and narrative strategy to construct the Xiangxi image, what discourse power is hidden behind the media image, and where films and TV series of Xiangxi will go in the future, these are extraordinary research value and social significance.Truly artistic vitality of Xiangxi’s films and TV series originated in the new period, also is in the 1980 s. It plays the image display function to the changing social context. In different historical stages, the films and TV series have its unique characteristics. From the aspects of theme selection to further divide, There are three types of films and TV series: the one which is drawn from literary works, the legendary art representation and the screen shaping of heroes and examples. In the new period,the films and TV series presented three different images of Xiangxi,the one is "remote,ignorance and poverty" as the characterization of wild world, the second is "audacity, wit "marked red Xiangxi, the third is "spiritual, simple, original" as the symbol of rural area. In addition, the content through the tragic characters, complicated emotional entanglements and the craftsmanship of seeds to make audience to realize the empathy. The media of films and TV series are arenas for all kinds of rights, Xiangxi’s image is constructed by the government, market and the mainstream culture and various power in different ways, and in each other’s game and conspired together. Specifically, first of all, the xiangxi’s image is a result of the pursuit of economic benefits by the films and TV series media.In order to get more advertising revenue and commercial sponsorship, we need numerous audiences. Second, political discourse is decisive factor in the films and TV series of Xiangxi, They highlight the mainstream ideology education motivation, the integration function of ideological and the correspondence to the mainstream political discourse which are the reflect of its duties as a "catcher".Finally, the Xiangxi’s image construction in the final analysis belongs to a specific product of history and culture, The love to the rural life has its profound social significance. To sum up, the construction of Xiangxi’s image essentially is a kind of mirror reflection to different period of Chinese society, and relation to Chinese social intrinsic development,but it only as "the other" in the process of the modernization of China.In order to prevent the image of films and TV series of Xiangxi was extreme, otherness and simplification, and the emergence of this situation which the audience is blindly accept, we can take guidance from the standpoint of the media which as a communicator. The films and TV series media need to lower body to find Xiangxi area, display Xiangxi culture by objective and comprehensive attitude, and create favorable public spaces to Xiangxi culture self-expression, give Xiangxi culture fully voice, comply with the demand of the market at the same time, multi-angle excavate the films and TV series image of Xiangxi.Finally,it can give the audience a "authentic" and "fresh" characteristic culture feast.
