Fu Jinquan, whose courtesy name is Dingyun and styled himself Yizi and Zuihua Taoist, from Shancheng of Jinxi County, Jiangxi Province, is a famous Taoist during the period of Emperor Jiaqing and Emperor Daoguang of Qing Dynasty skilled in alchemy of Taoism Yin and Yang schools. This passage mainly discusses his ideological of the three religions unity from three perspectives, namely, Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. As for alchemy practice, he advocates “life and spirit are developed simultaneously, that is to say, spirit does not exist without life and life is incomplete without spirit”. Life and spirit must be developed. Spirit is tied to heart; the noumenon is spirit; life starts with the vigor; natural qualities form the shape; human life embodies the dependence of spirit and vigor. In order to meet the needs of practicing alchemy, Fu Jinquan formed a "three religions unity" Philosophy of the Mind, thinking Taoism had only a “heart”, “the best Taoism are essentially the same and mental cultivation methods mean no desires, which completely illustrates the “heart”. The heart has functions of dominating each part of the body. Heart, besides, is immortal Buddha’s body, is fundamental to human life and death, is the origin of all things. Hearts are not polluted since people’s birth. But when people go into the secular society, their hearts will be buried in varieties of desires so indulgingly that it is difficult for them to wake up, therefore the saints of the three religions are needed to deliver them from worldly desires by way of Taoism. Fu Jinquan considered that although religions of three saints were divided into three categories---Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, but they followed the same rules of logic. “Despite the fact that the religions are decided, the rationales agree with each other.”Fu Jinquan referred to the “rationale” as “integrity and competence”. For those of both political integrity and professional competence, they have timid spirit, natural instincts and none of them is special; and they are equipped with every aspect, so what those who learn the Taoism have to do is learn to be in their integrity and competent. Fu Jinquan thought in the process improvement and perfection, the natural rationale in people’s heart will fight secular desires. If efforts are make to restrain from within and reduce one’s intelligence to have one’s original idea, not long after, will naturally accord with the Taoism. Whether ancient sage or wise emperors, all devoted time and energy on “heart”, and then educated the whole world. Fu Jinquan in his ideology called the integrity and competence of the three religions---Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism---“promote ethics”, “cultivating practice” and “clear your heart” respectively.
