Clamp Resist Dyeing technique, as one of three Chinese traditional printing and dyeing techniques, is famous home and abroad with its unique cultural meaning, beautiful texture and long history, and exudes an incomparable national charm. However, the living fossil of ancient printing and dyeing is now only survived in Southern Zhejiang and endangered, which is far away from optimism.This article briefly analyses its present and future through three main aspects. The first is to investigate its history and present, followed by analyzing its situation and crises, based on its development, technological process and artistic characteristics. The second is to describe how the traditional printing and dyeing of other countries or reg ions promoted the Clamp Resist Dyeing technique.That means analyzing the protection and development measures of handicraft art, especially printing and dyeing techniques in Taiwan, Japan, Britain and so on, and taking the advantage of them for the future of Clamp Resist Dyeing in Southern Zhejiang. The last is to analyze its potential in culture field, art and design field and economic field. Then trying to explore the way to inherit and develop the technique in each field.As one of the national Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Clamp Resist Dyeing technique in Southern Zhejiang is valuable wealth of Chinese nation. Nowadays with rapid economic development, it should be combined with modern design concept, innovative thinking, fashion culture, science a nd technology, novel materials and so on. Then it will be made good use of to create daily necessities which are better meet modern humans’ aesthetics, finally achieve its modern values.
