A Study Of Mei Yaochen’s Choice Of Poetic Styles

Mei Yaochen, one of the most prominent poets in the transitional period of tang-song poetry who paves the way for a new era of poetic style, has received much attention from researchers for ages. Considering from Mei Yaochen’s Choice of Poetic Styles, this thesis studies Mei Yaochen’s poetic features and poetic theories on the basis of the quantity of his diverse writings as well as his creative attitude. The thesis consists of three parjts:introduction, text and conclusion.The introduction mainly introduces Mei Yaochen and poetry studies on him so far, and the research significance of this topic.The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter,it systematizes the distribution of Mei Yaochen’s poetic styles and investigate the content and characteristic of each poetic style by dint of table format. Mei Yaochen wrote five-character verses throughout his life,most of them descriptions of life. Although has a great number, but it is a development process. Most of them are wrote about the society. Seven-character verses are for social. On that basis, the second chapter under consideration of Mei Yaochen’s life experience and social background, the thesis further analyses the reason for his choice of poetic styles and his creative attitudes towards each poetic style. It studies the evolution and development of Mei Yaochen’s poetic theories from the perspective of the choice of poetic styles.Five-character verses are the tool for Mei Yaochen to expand the description of the object of poetry. Five-character ancient poemrepresentative of Mei Yaochen’s poetic thought.Seven-character versesreflect his attitude of the time Parnassus. Finally, the thesis attempts to focus on the status and influence of Mei Yaochen’s poetry by placing it into the history of poetry development, by discourse it form five-character ancient poem and five-character verses. He learned form Wang Wei, Meng Haoran, Du Fu, Bai Juyi and so on. His poetic thoughts like dull, reflect reality also impact on future generations.The conclusion illustrates the autonomy and significance of Mei Yaochen’s choice of poetic styles.
