As the west civilization came to the east in the middle period of Qing Dynasty,Beijing’s modernization began gradually. The development of urban construction changed the traditional structure of the material life of Beijing residents. It also changed and impacted people’s long –term lifestyle. People’s clothing, food, shelter and transportation were brought into the orbit of modern advanced lifestyle. There were many real records about the public’s daily life of the capital of Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China in Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci. It described the local customs and practices from Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, especially in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China; it also recorded the hardships of the ancient Chinese capital from traditional backward towards modern civilization step by step.This is the object and content studied by the article.This article is divided into four parts. It will have a thorough interpretation of the connotation of the social history of Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci from the basic problems of Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci, the diet life of Beijing citizens from Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the modern transition of the urban traffic in Beijing, Beijing opera and entertainment for all the citizens of Beijing. From form to content then to the function,it will probe into the process of the ancient capital modernization in historical omni-directional perspective.The introduction part introduces the formation process of the thesis, writing situation, Zhu Zhi-Ci and research status of Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci. The first part of the body has a literature analysis on the existing Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci, analyses the cause of its prosperity in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and also correct and remedy on the “Chinese Zhu Zhi-Ci edition(Beijing)”; the second part has a thorough interpretation of Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci about the people’s diet life in Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China from the household food structure, diet market structure and diet culture characteristics; the third part has a thorough interpretation of Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci about the people’s trip mode in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China from vehicles, road construction and traffic laws, and also discusses the modernization of Beijing’s traffic; the fourth part has a thorough interpretation of Beijing Zhu Zhi-Ci about the people’s Beijing opera entertainment in Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China from the identity of the theatre-goers, time and space of watching and the new change of watching, and dissects the close relationship of Beijing opera and daily life of Beijing citizens in Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.
