In the period of Republic of China, watching Beijing Opera in theatres was an important part in the leisure life of Beijing and Tianjin residents, thus supporting their favorite actors and acting as amateur performers became the favorite entertainment of the residents. Beijing and Tianjin also have many Beijing Opera actresses whose appearance on the stage was the great achievement of the women emancipation. With the help of modern media, such as newspaper and magazine, actresses become famous stars in the city. Actresses want have good imagine in the media.This paper focuses on Beijing opera actresses in Beijing and Tianjin from 1912 to 1937, when the cities under the government of Republic of China, to analyze the relationship and interaction between the Beijing opera actresses and media. This paper examines why actresses were so famous and were reported frequently by the presses 'at that time; what people want to express through their narratives and judgments of actresses. By discussing the development of actresses in Beijing and Tianjin, this paper hopes to highlight aspects of this women's job and its relationship to fans and media.
