| A series of What are school mottoes reports were launched by CCTV news broadcasting on August 9th, 2014, introducing school mottoes of many well-known universities and stories contained in them, which inspires high attention to school mottoes of universities and attracts people to explore the meaning and value of them.As a vital part of spiritual culture construction in universities, school mottoes not only reflect specific education principles of universities but lead the mainstream of social values. Thus, it is of great significance to study school mottoes of universities, which means a lot to the construction of campus culture as well as spiritual civilization of the whole society.This paper conducts the study of university school mottoes in Chinese from the perspective of pragmatics.Firstly, the author gives a detailed analysis of research statues of university school mottoes inChinese and presents the research ideas as well as methodology of this paper. Secondly, a deep analysis of university school mottoes in views of pragmatic feature, pragmatic strategies and pragmatic principle are manifested. Then, the author adopts the ISM model to study factors affecting the language of university school mottoes and puts forward some suggestions to university school mottoes’ construction and improvement. The final part comes the conclusion and thinking of this study. |
