Speaking, one of the four basic language skills of English learning, has always been the weak part. In recent years, many reforms try to improve students’ spoken ability in college English class. As a new type interactive teaching approach tries to make teachers and students have better interaction in English classroom. This research attempts to explain the influence of interactive teaching approach to non-English major college spoken English teaching, combines with current situation of college spoken English teaching.This research attempts to answer the following questions based on the application of interactive teaching approach to non-English major college spoken English teaching:(1) what is the current state of classroom interaction in college spoken English class?(2) Can the application of interactive teaching approach improve students’ spoken English ability?(3) What are the students’ attitudes towards the application of interactive teaching approach in college spoken English?In this research. author chooses two classes 60 freshmen from Qinghai University as experimental subjects, two classes are randomly divided into experimental class(EC) and control class(CC), in experimental class, the textbook New Era Interactive English Viewing, Listening & Speaking Book 1A,Tsinghua University Press is adopted. The methods of tests(pre-test, post-test), questionnaire, interview,are to check the results. Research time is three months. After the test, author uses SPSS13.0 to analyze the data.According to the tests, questionnaire and interview, results indicate that compared with the control class, the application of interactive teaching approach in experimental class can improve students’ spoken English ability, the application of interactive teaching approach to non-English major college spoken English teaching should attract teachers’ attention, give students sufficient guidance and training in class, so that teacher-student and student-student can interact, students actively participate in the activities,ultimately improve their spoken English ability. However, this research inevitably have some limitations,such as experimental time is too short, the number of experimental subjects are not enough, as well as provide recommendations for future research.The results of the research prove that the interactive teaching approach is feasible and effective in promoting Chinese college English learner’s spoken interactive competence. The research in this thesis provides valuable experience for the course design of interactive spoken English class. Moreover, the study explores the feasibility of interaction theories abroad applied in Chinese context, which promotes theapplication and wide-use of interactive teaching approach to college language teaching in China.
