Research On Buddhist Grotto Sculpture Art In Jiangxi Region Of Song Dynasty

Nanyan Grotto is the largest existing Buddhist caves cut from the natural cave in our country, the Buddhist Sculpture in grotto is not only the typical representative of Buddhist sculpture style in Song Dynasty, but also an important window that cannot be ignored to research Jiangxi ancient culture.The first chapter of this paper makes an overview on the history of the rise and fall of Nanyan Grotto, combined with the local history and culture, contacts the social environment and historical background at that time to analyze the historical reasons of Nanyan Grotto. Then the paper researches the styles of Nanyan Grotto’s sculpture. The next chapter conducts discussion on the origins of Nanyan Grotto’s sculpture styles. The third chapter counts the damages of Nanyan Grotto’s sculpture and then proposes comments on the protection problems of Nanyan Grotto’s sculpture. The fourth chapter compares Nanyan Grotto with Tongtianyan Grotto, which is also located in Jiangxi Region, tries to discuss the difference between them under the same environment. The fifth chapter discusses the reasons of regional characteristics of Buddhist grotto sculpture in Jiangxi Region.
