The boxer rebellion is one of the most significant transition in modern Chinese history. The most immediate problem it resulted in was huge reparations.At the same time,it gave birth to a series of economic and fiscal crisis.Repaying huge reparations and solving financial problems became important economic demands after the gengzi.Provincial quota apportionment and civil society’s fund-raising are two main forms.National donation movement,Repaying campaign debt of Late Qing Dynasty,Patriotic donate movement were launched by civil society.Repaying campaign debt of Late Qing Dynasty was the most significant.It was raised by the tianjin chamber of commerce and get the response from all around.It trys to mobilize the people at all levels,and aims to repay huge reparations.Repaying campaign was great in strength and impetus. It is a period full of change at the end of the Qing Dynasty.Long political crisis and national crisis led to the social mentality coexistence of anxiety and excitement,and with the stimulation of the late Qing Dynasty’s reform,all kinds of social organizations and the public participation was very active.Repaying campaign was one of the representatives which was the only one supported by the government.Rumors of financial being supervisied by outsiders and the loss of gentry merchants’ authority were the two main reasons.The establishment and development of the chamber of Commerce,Public enlightenment and the strentgh of local social forces were the three possible factors.The chamber of commerce plays a dominant role in repaying campaign,it climaxes with the government’s support.Public participation sets a basis for the sustainable campaign.Repaying campaign was a kind of national salvation movement which was forced by financial crisis and sovereign crisis after the gengzi.In addition,it was the inevitable requirement of the development of social forces in the late Qing Dynasty.It is the common results in essence for economic development of national capital,financial independence and public enlightenment.Through the research, we can see the general situation about the financial independence, public enlightenment and national salvation after the gengzi.However, it is lack of systematic study on academic circles and yielded little.It is important to further study to know the national crisis and salvation after the gengzi.
