China’s porcelain history after thousands of years of development, the formation of the contemporary diversified development pattern, All flowers bloom together. Although the development process is a gradual process spiral, but in different historical stages also show obvious difference; this difference is not only reflected in specific objects and design elements, but also in the creation of culture and different design ideas on the stage. From the nature of the development of ceramic art, can be divided into the traditional art and contemporary ceramic art stage stage. In recent years, the application of Semiotics in the field of art and design has become a hot topic, but also art semiotics has gradually come to the academic frontier. The use of symbols in a rational and systematic study of the advantages to make up for the lack of perceptual analysis of traditional empiricism, and the perfect supplement for the theoretical system of the ceramic is of key importance. Also, "the study of traditional ceramics and modern ceramics differences" this controversial topic, semiotics research methodology is introduced, it can from a deeper perspective on the nature of reading more clearly. In this paper, the structuralism semiotics symbol Pearce three points, Saussure, and Susan Lange’s theory of art symbol into the traditional pottery and ceramic art semiotic study of differences in theory, through the formal grafting, will pottery creation concept, form, process and other aspects were relatively independent but each other the associated structure to be decomposed and combined, through induction and deduction, forming a clear chain of clues. Among them, the first part, from the perspective of historical evolution and the development overview of traditional ceramic art and contemporary ceramic art, from the whole of the two qualitative analysis; the second part, by Pearce and Saussure’s semiotic theory, the creation and meaning of traditional ceramic art refers to the process of semiotic analysis; the third part, based on the traditional theory of semiotics and Susan Lange art semiotics theory as the basis, interpretation of symbols and expression of contemporary ceramic art creation process; the fourth part, by comparing the difference of the former three parts, semiotic interpretation, formation of clarity, structure a relatively complete reasoning conclusion. In the three part, with some typical representative artifacts and works as a case study, theoretical structure of the reasonable evidence.
