Dafu Yu’s literature status is very important. His works are analyzed from 1920’s to now. At current study of Dafu Yu’s novels, researchers have done a great job, but there is still some place for us to discuss.This paper focuses on Dafu Yu’s novel as main analysis context to discuss his narrative mode in novel. This paper uses three chapters to describe his narrative mode, they are: writing on the poor & illness & dead, from positive to negative- changing of Yu’s life choice and narrative styles, and Yu’s self confession mode.This paper has three parts: introduction, main bodies, and conclusion. Introduction section will focus on the current research status, analyses the research direction from 20’s to present, and illustrates study emphasis on Yu’s novel in each period. The research objectives and aims will also be mentioned.The main bodies have three chapters. The first chapter is writing on the poor, illness, and dead. In Yu’s novel there are many poor characters that came from traditional feudal family and had received high education. However, they are too humble and feeling weak. They have hope and passion but are always turned down by the distance between dream and reality. They are also physically weak and mentally sensitive about the sickness of the environment. Yu chosen individual’s plight as the mirror to reflect society to express the difficulty of the Chinese May Fourth era, and chosen individually struggling and fighting to represent youngsters’ protest in that period.The second chapter is from positive to negative- changing of Yu’s life choice and narrative styles. Chen Lun novel collection had became the biggest try for Yu on context of novel. It even had became the milestone of social moral revolution leaded by Zuoren Zhou. Also, as the starter of new literature format, Yu had abandoned the useless parts and used positive and good parts from traditional culture. On the one hand, his novel had kept the crazy and ridiculous part of ancient people’s story to express the free of minds of traditional period and represented subjective thoughts of May Fourth. On the other hand, he used silence to against the cruel reality by writing hiding to avoid social riot in his later times.The third chapter is Yu’s self-confession mode. It starts with the analysis and discussion on the establishing of self-confession in Chinese May Fourth. This chapter describes that Yu’s self-confession mode is influenced by the Chinese self-confession establishment. Then there is the discussion on the referencing, applying, and theory construction of Yu’s self-confession mode. This chapter had ensured the influence of Yu’s words on Chinese social moral revolution. It concludes the confession as spiritual confession and political confession. In this chapter, the author will use Past and Lost as main context to argue previous ideas saying only negative points of the novel, and also use them as inheritance of Lu Xun’s Shang Shi to discuss.The conclusion section had summarized the different narrative mode appeared in the novel to support the objective and positive attitude on life and death as well as desire and sex in Yu’s novel. It also identified the contribution of Yu’s introducing Japanese literature self-confession style on the development of Chinese social subjective methods. Meanwhile it also raised several recommendations to contemporary Chinese social moral development.
