Since the year 2010, a batch of domestic youth films began to come into the sights of the audience and raised boom in the film industry in the year 2013. A large number of youth films sprung up. Such as “Go LALA Go”, “So Young”, “American Dream in China” and “My Old Classmate” etc. These films not only made a great success in commercial box-office, but also allured an influx of specific audients. These films highlight the domestic style of youth film with their unique artistic charm in images, hence is of great significant in research value. This thesis will be divided into five parts based on the narrative theories to make a study of the domestic youth films which came out since 2010. Chapter one takes the narrative tenses and content of youth films as the analysis points and carries out detailed analysis on the youth memory and topics. Chapter two mainly discusses the unique use of audio-visual art elements of Lens design, sound elements, color composition and the use of light, etc and takes film’s audio-visual features of technical factors into consideration as the influencing factors of film narrative. It not only promote the development of film narrative techniques, but also can promote the technology progress in the films. Chapter three makes an analysis from three aspects: city, campus and imagination. Adopting urbanization, campus narrative pattern, it reflects the aesthetic characteristics of pure youth and also expresses self identity of contemporary youth under the background of urbanization and campus. Starting with the analysis of the youth films audients, Chapter four studies the audients composition and viewing habits and also makes an analysis combining film narrative means to unveil the mysteriousness of youth films. In the last chapter, it probes into the existing limitations of youth films though as the high box-office films type. It encourages the audience to face the reality out of the fantasy of youth films to achieve a more positive future.
