Study On Room Image In Contemporary Female Writing

Room is a kind of closed, secret and marginal living space. Women tend to evade public space and stay in the rear of the arena of history. Both of them are private in nature and they must coincide in certain case or have inevitable relevance. So room has gradually become a theme image in contemporary female writing and the frequent emergence of room image is a very phenomenon which can’t be neglected. The author thinks that female writers explained their own life space-time allegory during the course of writing room images, and this paper is just a superficial study on it. The introduction gave a definition for room image and summarized the pertinent document literature at the present academia. The first part analyzed the reasons why room images frequently emerged in the contemporary feminine writing from three aspects:Chinese family and male-dominated cultural tradition, the introduction of feminism theory and spatial turn, closed physiology and dependent psychological femininity. The second part listed the form transitions of room images and clarified the changing process of female consciousness according to three periods:"17 years", "the new period", since 1990s. The third part interpreted the connotation of room images as material living space, independent spiritual space, and female body-writing space. The forth part discussed the narrative features of room image in three ways:pan-aesthetic writing content, introversive writing perspective, and spiritual text representation. The conclusion briefly evaluated the significance and limitation of room images which created by contemporary female writers.
