Survey Study On Use And Language Attitude Of Dialects And Mandarin Towards College Students In Qingdao

In a survey among college students in regards to the use and attitude toward Mandarin and dialects,it is found that many cities have already developed, though research on this matter in Qingdao is difficult to find. The major purpose of this thesis is to examine the use and attitude of college students in Qingdao towards dialect and Mandarin.The research is about the language ability,daily usage,language attitude of dialect and Mandarin,influenced factors and solving strategies.The theoretical basis of this thesis are the diglossia theory of sociolinguistics,language attitude theory and language policy.The data quantified and analyzed in the research have been collected through questionnaires and individual interviews. These two methods supply and validate each other,make the results more effectively.Analyzing data using SPSS and EXCEL software,combined with research of other scholars on other colleges using similar surveys to compare the linguistic situation of students,summed up the characteristics of Qingdao college students’ language use and language attitudes,and determine Qingdao college students’ language use and language attitudes of some specific issues, in order to do an in-depth study. This thesis has five chapters to study.Chapter one is introduction having three parts.The first part is summary about language use and language attitude survey research.The second part describes the purpose and significance of this study.The third part describes the research methods and research procedures.Chapter two describes the basic situation of the questionnaire and individual interviews,including object and scope of the survey,design ideas to the questionnaire,questionnaire recovered,and preliminary sorting of recovered data.Chapter three is the analysis of the survey results,including language ability analysis,the impact analysis of language environment to language ability,language use variance analysis,and differences in language attitude of college students in Qingdao.On this basis, summed up some features of language use and language attitude towards college students in Qingdao.For the problems in Chapter three,Chapter four explores the causes and proposes solutions strategies,including three parts.The first part analyzes the reasons of dialects and Mandarin level differences towards college students in Qingdao from the view of social factors.The second part studies the causes of diglossia from sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics.The third part is solving strategies towards improving the current situation of language use of college students in Qingdao.Chapter five is conclusion, summarizing the results of this study, and pointing the deficiencies.
