A Study On Grice’s Theory Of Conversational Implicature

Inspired by logic analysis,Grice began a study to the concept of meaning.Grice’s theory of intention-meaning joined the utter’s inte ntion,established connection between the meaning of lauguage and laug uage users,expand the new vision for the study of linguistic philoso phy.In Grice’s opinion,in a successful language communication,people have to get a common goal or direction,both sides need to make effort s for the common goal and maintain an attitude of cooperation in this process.The establishment of Cooperative Principle represents the fo rmation of the Theory of Conversational Implicature.In Grice’s view,t he process of conversational implicatures are actually the process an alysis of the speaker’s intention.In speech communication,the true me aning of what speaker says decided by speacker’s intention.Undoubted ly,Grice’s Theory of Conversational Implicature brings great influen ce over the linguistic philosophy and pragmatics,but there were still some defects in it.In this instance,Grice’s Theory of Conversationa l Implicature has been improved and developed.Besides,based on Grace and Neo-Gricean Theory,this paper combined with logic and cognitive p sychology,try to show the pragmatic reasoning from a different perspe ctive.
