Guqin(an ancient Chinese seven-stringed plucked instrument in some ways similar to the zither) plays an important role in China’s long history of both music and literature, whose cultural meaning is far beyond the scope of music, and is a traditional art with the most national ethos and aesthetic taste. With the development of culture in history, Chinese intellectuals established a close relation with guqin music and poetry. The article summarizes the relationship between guqin and ancient poetry, and a crossed research is made on music and literature. The article includes the introduction and four sections.Section 1: guqin and the mood of intellectuals in ancient poetry are researched. For thousands of years, ancient Chinese intellectuals played an important role in the development of guqin art. At the same time, ancient Chinese intellectuals have a close relationship with the traditional system of values shared by Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. To explore the close relationship between guqin and literature, the mentality of intellectuals must be learned first from the perspective of the three states of intellectuals- Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.Section 2: the "qin poetry" is one of mixture products of guqin and ancient poetry. Ancient Chinese intellectuals transformed the sound and rhythm of guqin music into the language of poetry. In this article, the relationship of language transformation between qin and ancient poetry is studied from the perspectives of qin instrument, qin music and qin art.Section 3: the merging of guqin and ancient poetry produced another form of art – qin song. For the qin song, the relationship of rhythm matching between qin and ancient poetry is explored through three ways where the poetry and qin are combined, to correctly learn the development of the relationship between guqin art and poetry art.Section 4: the mutual transformation of qin and poetry is mainly presented on the interlaced and interactive relationship between human and object, human and nature, as well as human and society, making a resonance of life merging nature, object and human, to explore the deep implication and enlightenments in the mutual transformation of ancient poetry and qin.
