This paper reports on an experiment which investigated the effects of the two kinds of vocabulary presentation(sentence context and discourse context) on the second language acquisition of Chinese that made by Thai students. 18 target words including nouns, verbs and adjectives are selected to be presented in the sentence context(example sentence) and the discourse context(passage) and conduct the sentence context and discourse context teaching for the subjects. After finishing the learning, take immediate post-test. The test included 5 kinds of vocabulary knowledge, and take delayed post-test after 3 weeks with the same test questions. The experimental results show that the two kinds of context presentation have no significant influence on the vocabulary learning: 1. There is no significant differences between two context presentation modes in terms of the effect on 5 kinds of vocabulary study; 2. In 5 kinds of vocabulary knowledge tests, the post-test result of the first four kinds is better than the delayed post-test result while the post-test result and the delayed post-test result in the last test show no obvious difference; 3. No obvious difference is found in the presentation mode of 5 kinds of vocabulary tests and the interaction of test time, indicating that the effect of two presentation modes on different kinds of vocabulary study will not vary with the variability of test time.
