Salvatore Daly is one of representative of surrealism school of paintings, and as well as an outstanding Spanish artist in twentieth century. He applied Freud’s theory of psychology analysis and his own crazy imagination to his works, which resulted in a fantastic and refreshing art form that made an invaluable contemporary and modern art,therefore, the research on Daly’s painting is of great significance.It is known that Daly is perseverant in research on substantial consciousness and irrationality, and his application of these research findings has become a symbol in his works and meantime achieved his uniquely absurd and weird painting style. In his works, there is always an interaction between classicism and modernism, art and science, which fills his paintings with the confliction between fantasy and reality,rationality and illusionary. Around the Dali changeable paintings, the viewer appears on the image is not in conformity with the logic of the object, meaning they represent, and to convey Dali’s intention and emotion question. Through the exploration and analysis of the symbols in Daly’s works, we can dig out the metaphor existed in Daly’s paintings.The thesis are composed of four chapter. Chapter one first presents a introduction about metaphor, which then leads to the manifestation of metaphor used in Daly’s works, last an illustration of reasons for metaphor generation in his works is provided.Chapter two analyzes the types of metaphor used in Daly’s works. Chapter three analyzes the function of metaphor world and the characteristics of art through the analysis of Daly’s paintings. The fourth chapter, this paper discusses Daly revelation for the contemporary art. This thesis mainly focuses on the analysis and discussion in Chapter two and Chapter three, from the perspective of metaphor generation and the types of metaphor based on the analysis of Daly’s paintings, so that we cannot only get a comparatively more accurate interpretation about Daly’s paintings, but also make a deep understanding of Daly’s psychological connotation and improve our recognition about ourselves and the creative art activities we are engaged in. |
